Glen Powell Will Lend His Voice to Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Glen Powell to Voice Fox McCloud in Upcoming Animated Film
Glen Powell has officially been cast as the voice of Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the eagerly awaited sequel to Universal’s 2023 blockbuster, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is set to hit theaters on April 1.
Powell took to Instagram on Friday to share the news, captioning his post, “Born to Barrel Roll.”
Fox McCloud, originally from Nintendo’s Star Fox video game series, is recognized as an elite pilot leading the mercenary team Star Fox. This character has also appeared in various other Nintendo titles, including the popular Super Smash Bros. series. The sequel will introduce McCloud alongside other notable characters voiced by an all-star cast, including Princess Rosalina (Brie Larson), Yoshi (Donald Glover), and Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie).
Produced by Illumination and Nintendo, much like its predecessor, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is anticipated to be a significant release this year. The first film achieved remarkable success, grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide and securing its position as the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time, trailing only behind Disney’s Frozen movies.
The returning voice cast for the sequel includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. While the first film followed the adventures of Brooklyn plumbers Mario and Luigi through a mysterious pipe to a fantastical world, the new installment will take viewers to cosmic landscapes filled with galactic challenges beyond the familiar Mushroom Kingdom.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back at the helm, working from a script by Matthew Fogel. Universal and Nintendo are co-financing the project, with Universal also responsible for worldwide distribution.
In addition to his work on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Glen Powell is currently developing the crocodile horror-thriller spec The Death Roll with Lionsgate and his production company, Barnstorm. His upcoming acting projects include J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond and Chad Powers Season 2, following recent performances in The Running Man and How to Make a Killing.
