Gillian Anderson Shares Excitement About Ryan Coogler’s ‘X-Files’ Reboot
Gillian Anderson on Ryan Coogler’s Upcoming ‘X-Files’ Reboot
Gillian Anderson has expressed her enthusiasm for the reboot of The X-Files, being developed by acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler. Anderson, who portrayed Agent Dana Scully in the original series, praised the pilot script during her recent appearance at Awesome Con.
Hulu has officially greenlit the pilot, which Coogler will both write and direct. In her remarks, Anderson noted that she has had "a few conversations" with Coogler, suggesting the possibility of her return to the iconic role.
“He’s such a cool guy and so talented,” Anderson said, adding that "the pilot script is really good." She encouraged fans to "have an open mind and give it a chance because it’s gonna be f***ing cool," describing the project as "something different" and "special."
Jennifer Yale, known for her work on The Copenhagen Test, will serve as the showrunner for the anticipated supernatural series. Coogler previously hinted at the project’s potential during a podcast in April, stating, “I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f**ing scary. We’re gonna try to make something really great and really be something for the real X-Files* fans, and maybe find some new ones.”
The original X-Files series, which aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002, featured Anderson alongside David Duchovny as FBI agents investigating paranormal phenomena. The show spurred two feature films—The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008)—as well as a revival in 2016 that ran for two additional seasons.
