Ghetts, Star of ‘Supacell’, Sentenced to 12 Years for Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident in the UK
Ghetts, the actor known as Justin Clarke-Samuel, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 20-year-old student Yabin Tamang. The decision was announced in court after Ghetts pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving last December.
In addition to the prison sentence, Ghetts has received a 17-year driving disqualification.
The 41-year-old gained recognition for his role as the antagonist Krazy in Netflix’s gritty superhero drama, Supacell. He is also a successful rapper with several albums and singles to his credit.
The incident took place on the night of October 18 last year, when police reported that Ghetts had been drinking and was driving recklessly across central London towards his home in Woodford. CCTV footage revealed that he was driving at excessive speeds, performing dangerous maneuvers, and causing damage in a collision with another vehicle, according to a statement from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Ghetts collided with Tamang on a residential road while traveling at speeds exceeding 60 mph. After the crash, he fled the scene but was arrested the following day. Tamang succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Shani Taggart from the Crown Prosecution Service stated, “Justin Clarke-Samuel knew he was in no fit state to drive and there was clear evidence of his excessive speed and disregard for road users as he drove incredibly dangerously across our city.” Taggart emphasized the strength of their case, citing CCTV footage, toxicology reports, and mobile data analysis as key elements leading to the guilty pleas.
“Our thoughts remain with Yubin Tamang’s family today as they grieve the loss of their only child, and with his loved ones who have to navigate a life without him,” she added.
Filming for Season 2 of Supacell began just over a week before the fatal incident and remains incomplete. The series, which explores the lives of a group of Black Londoners who unexpectedly develop superpowers, has amassed hundreds of millions of viewing hours since its launch in 2024.
Created by Andrew Onwubolu, also known as Rapman, Supacell features a cast that includes Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, and Adelayo Adedayo. The fate of Ghetts’ character, Krazy, was left uncertain at the end of the first season.
