When discussing the most recognized figures in college football, Lane Kiffin frequently emerges as a central topic. His ex-wife, Layla Kiffin, has also played a significant role in his journey, supporting him throughout his career.
The Louisiana State University coach drew attention in late 2025 when he made a sudden departure from the University of Mississippi. Lane and Layla married in the early 2000s and welcomed three children before their divorce in 2016. However, by the beginning of 2025, signs of reconciliation emerged, with Layla spotted cheering for Lane at his games.
Long a familiar presence in SEC circles, Layla is known for her strong family values and football ties. She grew up in a prominent football family; her father, John Reaves, a celebrated Florida Gators quarterback, went on to play in the NFL.
Education and Early Career
Layla’s ties to college football began early. She once cheered for the Gators before transitioning to support the LSU Tigers. Following in her parents’ footsteps, she attended the University of Florida, where she joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After college, she remained in Florida, landing a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where she met Lane Kiffin—the team’s then-defensive coordinator was Lane’s father, Monte Kiffin.
Football Heritage
Having been immersed in football from childhood, Layla’s connection to the sport is deep-rooted. Her father, John Reaves, established himself as a record-setting quarterback at UF before a successful 11-year NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tragically, he battled addiction issues before passing away at 67 in August 2017.
Family Life
Layla and Lane share three children: daughters Landry and Presley, born in 2004 and 2006, respectively, and son Monte Knox Kiffin, born in 2009. After their divorce, Lane relocated to Alabama for his role as offensive coordinator with the University of Alabama, while Layla and the children remained in Los Angeles.
“I went to Alabama, we had no idea what was going to happen there so they didn’t move,” Lane recalled in September 2025. “Well, that ends up not working out and we get divorced.”
In 2020, following Lane’s move to Oxford, Mississippi, to become head coach at Ole Miss, their children joined him. Layla relocated to find a new home for Knox, while Presley pursued volleyball at the University of Southern California.
In November 2025, Lane announced his appointment as head coach at LSU. Shortly thereafter, Knox indicated his intention to transfer to University Lab, a school located on the LSU campus.
Reconciliation
Lane and Layla’s divorce was announced in February 2016, characterized as mutual. “After a lot of careful thought and consideration, Layla and I have mutually decided to divorce,” Lane said at the time. “We are fully committed to our kids’ future being our No. 1 priority.”
Fast forward nearly a decade, and Layla’s presence by Lane’s side has led many to believe they have reconciled. In January 2025, Lane shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to Layla on Instagram. A few months later, he posted a photo making a heart shape with a woman’s hand, captioned “Ride or die ♥️.” A comment from their daughter Landry—“Omg”—hinted that the woman in the image was Layla.
Since then, Layla has frequently attended Lane’s games and stood beside him during his LSU coaching announcement, showcasing the enduring bond between the former couple.
