Josh Holloway, widely recognized for his role as Sawyer in the hit ABC series Lost, is a dedicated father to his two children, daughter Java and son Hunter. The actor met his wife, Yessica Kumala Holloway, in a bar in 1999, and the couple married on October 1, 2004.
Initially, the couple did not anticipate becoming parents. However, their relationship evolved, leading them to embrace parenthood. Holloway reflected on the moment in December 2008, stating, “Basically, nature happened. [Having] children becomes a part of it.” Java was born on April 9, 2009, and Hunter followed on January 27, 2014. Embracing fatherhood intensified Holloway’s drive for success.
“It’s made me hungry, and so joyous about life in general,” he told PEOPLE in February 2010. “I feel a responsibility to be a better human being. To be [Java’s] hero. I mean, I gotta be. I will be.”

Java Kumala Holloway was born on April 9, 2009, in Oahu, Hawaii, during her father’s filming of Lost. A source confirmed at the time, “Dad and mom are absolutely thrilled. Everyone’s happy and healthy.”
In 2023, Holloway fondly recalled the day he brought his “little bunny” home from the hospital, noting, “And now she’s all grown up!” The actor quickly adapted to parenthood, claiming in 2010, “[I change diapers] all the time! I’m super fast.”
Holloway even took on a role in the children’s series Yo Gabba Gabba specifically for Java. He described the experience as one of the hardest days of his career due to the high energy required but enjoyed it nonetheless.
Java has shared many family adventures, including a camping trip where she famously decided to release a bass she caught. Today, as a teenager, she enjoys running and baking, inspiring her father daily. In a heartfelt tribute on National Daughter Day in 2024, Holloway expressed, “Who you are makes me want to be a better person.”

Hunter Lee was born on January 27, 2014. Holloway recalls being “full of fear” with his first child, but he felt more composed with Hunter, stating, “We’re calmer, which makes everything better.”
In a 2017 interview with Women’s Health, Holloway shared that his family is particularly close-knit, often sharing a bedroom. “At home, we all sleep in the same room,” he explained. “So I wake up thinking about how beautiful my children are, lying there sleeping … and also how annoying it can be when they wake up.”
The actor frequently shares his passion for music with his children. In December 2019, he posted a video of himself playing Christmas songs on the piano with Java and Hunter. He also enjoyed various vacations with them, remarking on shared experiences at the beach and skiing in France.
In a touching message for Hunter’s birthday in 2022, Holloway noted, “My little man. Watching you grow into your superpowers is absolutely incredible! Be careful, but be bold! I love you with everything in me.”
