Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher Team Up with Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson in Doug Liman’s Thriller ‘Bitcoin’ Heading to Cannes Market
Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher Join Cast of Doug Liman’s Thriller Bitcoin
Actors Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher will star alongside Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson in the upcoming thriller Bitcoin, directed by Doug Liman. The film, which has also been informally referred to as Killing Satoshi, is set to begin sales at the Cannes market by Patrick Wachsberger’s 193.
Character details and a synopsis have been released. Doug Liman reunites with Affleck, who plays computer scientist Craig Wright. This project follows their collaboration on the 2024 Apple film The Instigators. Davidson portrays blockchain investor Calvin Ayre, while Gadot takes on the role of Charlotte “Lotte” Miller. The film’s screenplay is penned by WGA Award winner Nick Schenk, known for Gran Torino, and is produced by Ryan Kavanaugh and Lawrence Grey. Filming commenced at the end of February.
The official synopsis describes Bitcoin as “the true story of one man’s quest to prove that he is, in fact, the creator of Bitcoin — a claim that puts his life in peril and sets off a global firestorm and a high-stakes race among tech billionaires and world leaders, with the fate of the world’s financial system at stake.”
Craig Wright, the Australian computer scientist at the center of the film, has publicly asserted that he is part of the team behind Bitcoin and the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. These claims have been widely disputed within the cryptocurrency community, culminating in a 2024 British High Court ruling that declared Wright is not Nakamoto and must cease claiming to be.
Wachsberger, the head of 193, described the film as an “exciting and gripping story, set in the mysterious and high-stakes real world of crypto." He expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with Liman after their previous success with Mr. & Mrs. Smith and looks forward to showcasing innovative footage from Bitcoin at Cannes.
Earlier reports highlighted a unique casting notice that mentioned the use of artificial intelligence to enhance performances in the film. According to Variety, the indie film may utilize AI technology for adjustments, with actors performing in a markerless capture stage rather than traditional locations.
This project marks a significant return for Ryan Kavanaugh, the former head of Relativity Media, which financed notable films such as The Social Network and The Fast and the Furious before its collapse in 2015. Kavanaugh has recently become a proponent of cryptocurrency.
Puck was the first to report on 193’s involvement in the project.
