Fremantle Creates Production Hub for Global Versions of ‘Holey Moley’
Fremantle is set to expand its global footprint with the acquisition of production and distribution rights for Holey Moley. The international entertainment company has announced the establishment of a production hub in Portimão, Portugal, aimed at creating localized versions of the game show that originally aired on ABC.
Filming is scheduled to commence in May and June 2026, with Fremantle indicating that the announcement of global territories adopting the format will follow in due course. Recently, it was reported that UK hosts Ant and Dec are developing their own version through their independent studio, Mitre Studios, in collaboration with Fremantle.
The Portimão hub reflects Fremantle’s commitment to Holey Moley, which was showcased during the recent London TV Screenings. The show, created by Fremantle’s Eureka Productions, features contestants navigating oversized holes that challenge their precision and require them to overcome various obstacles.
Holey Moley aired on ABC from 2019 to 2022 and also had a series broadcasted in Australia on Seven Network.
Fremantle CEO Jennifer Mullin expressed enthusiasm for the format’s potential, stating, “Holey Moley has proven its success in the United States, with its unique blend of comedy, competition, and large-scale spectacle, attracting a significant broad audience. We are excited to drive the format’s international expansion through our new global production hub in Portugal.”
Meanwhile, Chris Culvenor, the creator of Holey Moley, has recently launched a new Fremantle label, Eureka Studios. Fremantle is also known for producing popular shows such as Got Talent, The X Factor, and Too Hot To Handle.
