Franz Rogowski and Benedict Wong Join Cast of The Masque of the Red Death
Franz Rogowski and Benedict Wong are set to join Mikey Madison and Léa Seydoux in The Masque of the Red Death, a film directed by DGA Award winner Charlie Polinger. This project, a revisionist and darkly comedic adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s 1842 short story, will be produced by A24.
The specifics of the characters remain undisclosed. Poe’s original tale follows Prince Prospero, who, as a plague ravages the countryside, retreats with a group of nobles into a fortified abbey. In an attempt to distract themselves, the elite host a lavish masked ball, which takes a turn as an ominous presence disrupts their festivities, forcing the guests to face their grim reality.
Production will be led by Julia Hammer and Erik Feig for Picturestart, alongside James Presson and Lucy McKendrick, with Polinger serving as the executive producer. A24 is set to handle the global distribution of the film.
Franz Rogowski, an Independent Spirit Award nominee, is recognized for his performances in critically acclaimed films, including Bird, Passages, Great Freedom, and A Hidden Life. He will next appear in Henry Dunham’s upcoming A24 film Enemies and in Jaume Collet-Serra’s reboot of Cliffhanger. Rogowski is represented by CAA and B-Side Management.
Benedict Wong recently premiered his role in Vera Miao’s horror film Rock Springs at Sundance and garnered attention for his performance in Zach Cregger’s breakout hit Weapons. He is also set to appear in Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars and the second season of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. Notably, Wong is currently unrepresented, relying solely on attorney Robert Wallerstein of Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum.
