Frankie Muniz Takes the Wheel at Bristol: A Bold Moment in NASCAR and ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Legacy
Frankie Muniz Involved in Race Crash Hours After Hulu Series Debut
Frankie Muniz, known for his role in the beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, experienced a significant setback in a NASCAR event just hours after the release of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair on Hulu. The incident occurred on Friday at the Bristol Motor Speedway, where Muniz’s Ford F-150, decorated in Malcolm in the Middle themes, suffered damage in a collision involving fellow racers Tyler Reif and Timmy Hill.
“I actually thought we were running pretty good,” Muniz said in an interview with Fox Sports. “I felt pretty quick. We were in the lucky dog position, so I was just trying to do some good lap times. I think there was like 10 to go on the stage.”
Following the crash, Muniz recounted an exchange during which Reif criticized him for racing while classified as a "lapper." Muniz defended his position on the track, stating, “I’m fighting. I belong on that racetrack just as much as he does, just as much as the leaders do. And I’m not going to back down on that. I haven’t seen a replay, but based on what I felt, I went to the middle of track. I didn’t track all the way out to show that I was going to go back to the bottom.”
Muniz’s return to the entertainment industry has been marked by his recent reprisal of the lead role in the Hulu revival of Malcolm in the Middle, which debuted on the same day as his on-track incident. After stepping back from acting to pursue a career in racing in 2008, this series marks a significant milestone in his return to television.
