Fourth Suspect in Newport Beach Burglary Case Taken into Custody
Fourth Suspect Arrested in Newport Beach Burglary Ring
A fourth member of a transnational crime ring, connected to a series of residential burglaries in Newport Beach, has been apprehended a week after three other members were arrested, authorities reported Thursday.
Newport Beach police revealed that the organized criminal group has been actively targeting neighborhoods in Newport Beach and Irvine for several months. Their activities came to a halt when an attempted burglary in the Shady Canyon area of Irvine on January 10 led to a police response. During this incident, the suspects were filmed fleeing while carrying backpacks. They were observed jumping a fence and then hiding in bushes before escaping in a getaway vehicle.
This incident prompted the arrest of three suspects the following week. Investigators from Newport Beach were able to track down the fourth suspect, identified as Erick Isaac Enrique Belmar-Gallardo, in Los Angeles shortly thereafter.
The successful arrests of all four individuals were made possible through collaboration with the police departments of Los Angeles and Irvine. Belmar-Gallardo, who has multiple outstanding warrants, is currently being held without bail at the LAPD Valley jail.
