Former NFL Player Kevin Johnson Found Dead in Homicide Investigation
Former NFL defensive lineman Kevin Johnson was found dead at a homeless encampment in Los Angeles, with the cause of death attributed to “blunt head trauma and stab wounds,” according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The authorities stated that Johnson, 55, was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning after being discovered unconscious. His death has been classified as a homicide that is currently under investigation.
Drafted by the New England Patriots as a fourth-round pick in 1993, Johnson had a diverse football career. He also played for the Minnesota Vikings and the Oakland Raiders before joining the Philadelphia Eagles. During his two seasons in Philadelphia, Johnson recorded 43 tackles, including seven sacks, and notably returned a fumble for a touchdown. He played 15 games with the Raiders in 1997.
After his NFL career, Johnson made a transition to the Arena Football League, competing for teams in Orlando and Los Angeles. A Los Angeles native, he played college football at Texas Southern.
Investigators revealed that Johnson had been residing at the encampment at the time of his death. Friends indicated that he faced various health issues later in life, which were believed to have contributed to his circumstances.
