Fondazione Prada Film Fund Awards First Grants to Talented Filmmakers Including Tatiana Huezo, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Levan Akin
Fondazione Prada has announced the selection of feature film projects for the initial funding round of its newly established film fund.
Launched during the Venice Film Festival last September, the Fondazione Prada Film Fund represents a significant step in the Italian fashion house’s two-decade relationship with cinema, as it ventures into direct support of feature films for the first time.
The inaugural list includes 14 diverse projects, featuring works from noted filmmakers such as Tatiana Huezo, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Levan Akin.
Among the selected projects, four are currently in development, nine are in production, and one has reached the post-production phase. The films involve production companies from 26 countries across five continents and cover a broad spectrum of genres. The projects are conceived by six women and eight men, with two being debut features.
Miuccia Prada, President and Director of Fondazione Prada, praised the quality and innovation of the selected projects, stating, “The quality and experimentation of the selected projects demonstrate the dynamic nature and variety that characterize contemporary independent cinema.”
She emphasized the fund’s goal of supporting filmmakers, particularly those needing concrete assistance to realize their visions. “With the Film Fund, we aim to promote the work of authors, especially those who most need concrete support to translate their vision into reality,” Prada added.
