Florida Man Remains Unfazed After Shooting 2-Year-Old During Robbery Incident
Florida Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Toddler During Robbery
A tragic incident unfolded on August 29, 2025, in Florida, where a man has been accused of shooting a two-year-old during a home invasion. Clifford Long, also known as "Goof," allegedly entered the residence and opened fire on a multigenerational family, leading to the death of little Bles’Syn Lightner, who was struck in the forehead.
Melbourne Police responded to the scene around 10:40 p.m., discovering a 48-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man suffering from serious gunshot injuries. Officers later found the child in the bathroom, where she was pronounced dead.
At the time of the shooting, six other family members, including two children, were in the house but were unharmed. The toddler’s parents were reportedly attending a concert during the attack. Authorities found no signs of forced entry. Although the victims initially did not identify the shooter, the 54-year-old man later recognized Long as the assailant, describing him as a tall, thin, light-skinned Black male with a head shaped "like a football."
In an arrest affidavit, it was noted that Long allegedly confessed to the killing during a conversation with his brother, stating, "They wouldn’t come off that money." Investigators believe Long intended to rob the home or settle a drug-related dispute. Despite his confession, Long claimed he did not mean to harm the child.
One week prior to this incident, Long and his brother faced charges for violently attacking a homeless man during a drug argument. Since September 2025, Long has remained in custody at Brevard County Jail for that assault.
When questioned about the toddler’s death, Long initially denied involvement, claiming he had been at a gas station during the shooting. However, he later acknowledged knowing the toddler’s father but stated he did not know the rest of the family well. His demeanor during police interviews raised concerns; he reportedly stated, “To be honest with you, I didn’t shed a tear but my condolences to the family” in reference to the shooting.
Long is scheduled to appear in court on May 20. The status of his pleas or legal representation remains unclear, and the Melbourne Police Department did not respond to inquiries regarding the case.
