Fireworks Without a Permit Lead to Closure of Sixth Street Bridge in LA
Investigation Underway in Response to Fireworks Incident on Sixth Street Bridge
Los Angeles law enforcement is investigating following the emergence of a video on social media depicting an unpermitted fireworks display on the Sixth Street Bridge.
The footage reveals dozens of individuals gathered on the bridge, with a line of fireworks carefully arranged and subsequently ignited, resulting in a makeshift fireworks show.
Witnesses in the video indicated that the event seemed to be coordinated. One individual can be heard directing the crowd, stating, “As soon as those are up in the air, we’re going to hit everything, all right?”
In the aftermath of the display, firefighters were seen responding to the scene to put out at least two small fires. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that it received reports of a rubbish fire at approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 27 on the 1400 block of Sixth Street. Upon arrival, crews encountered smoldering debris at multiple locations.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned the incident, saying, “This reckless incident put both drivers and pedestrians at risk. The use of unpermitted, commercial-grade fireworks is dangerous and has no place on busy roadways. The LAPD is aware of this incident and is using every available resource to prevent it from happening again.”
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department noted that there is “no record of the incident, nor can we confirm the date based on the creator’s claim,” but acknowledged the risks associated with illegal displays of commercial-grade fireworks.
As of now, it remains unclear if any arrests have been made in relation to this incident.
