Fire at Montebello Hospital Leads to Patient Evacuations
Fire Evacuates Patients at Montebello Hospital
A small fire erupted at Adventist Health White Memorial in Montebello on Monday, prompting the evacuation of a dozen patients. The incident was reported around 11 a.m. on Beverly Boulevard, where fire officials encountered heavy smoke upon arrival.
"Our first units were able to contain the fire, but multiple patients were evacuated," stated Assistant Fire Chief Alfredo Estrada of the Montebello Fire Department. The hospital later confirmed that the fire originated in an employee lunchroom.
Hospital officials reported that 12 patients from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and emergency department were safely relocated to other facilities within the hospital system in Los Angeles. Fortunately, Assistant Chief Estrada noted that none of the evacuated patients sustained injuries from the incident. However, one nurse experienced minor smoke inhalation.
Importantly, the fire did not impact the hospital’s two primary inpatient units, which care for the majority of patients. Fire officials indicated that there was no evidence of suspicious activity linked to the cause of the fire.
