DUI Chase Leads to Rollover Accident on Parked Car in LA
Suspect Hospitalized After High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Multi-Vehicle Collision
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – A high-speed pursuit involving a suspected DUI driver culminated in a violent crash early Sunday morning, leaving the driver hospitalized and a parked vehicle pinned underneath a pickup truck.
The chase began shortly after 1 a.m. in South Los Angeles, near Hoover and 95th Street, when police observed a black pickup truck driving erratically. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled, prompting a nearly hour-long pursuit through multiple neighborhoods, including Glendale and Atwater.
Around 2 a.m., the situation escalated when the suspect reportedly ran a red light in Atwater, colliding with a black sedan. The force of the impact caused the pickup truck to flip over, ultimately landing upside down on a parked car.
Emergency services transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment; however, their current condition remains unknown. The driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries.
A resident whose parked vehicle was struck described the scene as chaotic, recalling the jarring noise of the impact. “I heard a huge crash, I woke up my girlfriend, I ran out and the first thing I saw through my front window was a car on top of my car. It wasn’t crashed into the side, clipped by it, it was completely on top,” he said, expressing disbelief at the sight.
Authorities have indicated that the suspect faces several charges, including felony evading and driving under the influence. The Los Angeles Police Department is set to review dashcam and surveillance footage related to the incident to aid in the investigation. The condition of the suspect has yet to be updated following their hospitalization.
