Finley Suppan Shines as a Sophomore Pitcher at Chaminade
West Hills’ Suppan Legacy Continues with Rising Softball Star
The Suppan family has deep roots in West Hills, celebrated for significant contributions to local sports. Jeff Suppan, a former standout in West Hills PONY baseball, went on to enjoy a distinguished 17-year career in Major League Baseball. His sister, Karen, previously coached girls’ volleyball at Chaminade, while their brother, Mike, has long served as a teacher at the same institution. Jeff remains actively involved, continuing to support West Hills PONY baseball.
Now, a new generation is making its mark; Jeff’s daughter, Finley, is emerging as a standout pitcher for Chaminade. As a sophomore on the team, she has helped lead a successful season with a record of 10-2-1.
Reflecting on her father’s influence, Finley noted, “He’s helped me a lot. We’ve had many car rides together. He told me a lot about the mental side of softball. Also how important it is to just focus one pitch at a time as a pitcher and to control the controllable.”
For Jeff, the experience of watching his daughter take the mound is a different challenge. He remarked, “I have to admit I don’t know how my parents and my family watched me pitch for all those years. I guess that’s why my mom always kept score and now I do too.”
For more insights, Finley’s full interview will be featured in Thursday’s edition of Friday Night Live at 5 p.m. via X at LATSondheimer.
This report highlights the positive developments in high school sports, showcasing the enduring legacy of the Suppan family and the bright future ahead for young athletes like Finley.
