Olivia Rodrigo marks a dynamic New Music Friday with the release of “Drop Dead,” the lead single from her upcoming third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The single, co-written with Amy Allen and featuring a nod to The Cure, signals the Grammy-winning artist’s return to the forefront of the genre.
In addition, fellow pop star sombr released his new single “Potential” in anticipation of his performance at the second weekend of Coachella, scheduled for Saturday, April 18. Madonna energized the dance floor with her debut of “I Feel So Free,” a track from her upcoming album Confessions II, aired on iHeartRadio’s Pride Radio. This week also saw the release of singles from a variety of artists, including Riley Green with “My Way,” Midland’s “Drinkin’ Dark Whiskey,” Inayah’s “Outside,” WizTheMc’s “Wait For You,” Buju Banton’s “Butterflies,” Cody Johnson’s “I Want You,” 21 LIl Harold & BabyDrill’s “Spin,” Ava Max’s “Out of Your Mind,” Belles & Dolly Parton’s “Son of Jolene,” and Kenya Grace’s “The One You Loved.”
On the album front, Nine Inch Noize— a collaboration between Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize—released a 12-track self-titled album featuring reworked versions of iconic NIN tracks such as “Closer.” ZAYN, a former member of One Direction, unveiled his fifth studio album, Konnakol, while Grammy-nominated rapper Sexyy Red launched her new LP, Yo Favorite Trappa Favorite Rappa. Anne Hathaway shared the complete soundtrack for her upcoming A24 film, Mother Mary: Greatest Hits, which includes contributions from prominent pop figures like Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX, and FKA twigs. M.I.A. introduced a fresh direction with her new gospel-inspired album M.I.7.
