Family Returns to Lake Balboa to Find Their Home in Disarray and $25K in Theft
Thieves Steal $25,000 Worth of Valuables in Lake Balboa Home Break-In
Authorities are investigating a burglary in Lake Balboa where thieves made off with over $25,000 in items, including $15,000 in jewelry. The incident occurred on Shoshone Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The homeowner, who was returning home with his wife and baby, discovered a shattered glass back door upon arrival. “I open the door. I realize it’s unlocked. I looked inside — the house is completely trashed,” he recounted. Concerned for their safety, the family waited outside for police to arrive.
Security footage did not capture the break-in, but the homeowner shared that police suggested the suspects may have disabled the WiFi before entering to evade detection.
Since April 10, investigators have reported at least 21 break-ins in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. While burglaries in the area have decreased by 42% compared to the same period last year, police and local officials are boosting patrols in response to rising public concern over safety.
As of now, descriptions of the thieves remain unavailable, adding urgency to ongoing investigations. “The first thing that goes through my mind is that I’m blessed because my wife and son are safe,” the homeowner expressed. “But we’re also kind of shocked and scared.”
