Exploring Roadside Attractions and Saban’s Journey with Rod Davis Lurie’s ‘Lucky Strike’ in North America
Roadside Attractions and Saban Films Acquire WWII Thriller ‘Lucky Strike’
Roadside Attractions and Saban Films have announced the acquisition of North American rights to Lucky Strike, a World War II action thriller directed by Rod Davis Lurie, known for his previous works The Last Castle and The Contender. The film is set to open in theaters on June 26.
The ensemble cast features Scott Eastwood, known for The Outpost and Fury, alongside Emmy nominee Colin Hanks, recognized for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Band of Brothers. Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, who starred in King Richard and Exhibiting Forgiveness, also plays a key role. Taylor John Smith, noted for his performances in Where the Crawdads Sing and Sharp Objects, completes the principal cast.
Lucky Strike reunites Lurie with Eastwood and producer Frydman, following their collaboration on the 2019 war film The Outpost.
The film’s narrative, based on research conducted by co-writer and producer Frydman, follows a soldier trapped behind enemy lines during the pivotal Battle of the Bulge. Armed only with a Motorola SCR-300 radio—a newly developed technology—the soldier must use his resourcefulness to thwart the advancing Nazi forces and navigate his way back home.
The acquisition was negotiated by Roadside Attractions Co-President Howard Cohen, Saban Films Co-President Jonathan Saba, along with President Jonathan Younger and JJ Nugent on behalf of Millennium Media and the filmmakers.
Cohen and fellow Co-President Eric d’Arbeloff remarked, “Lucky Strike brings a thrilling new perspective to World War II, pairing covert missions behind enemy lines with breakthrough radio technology that may have shaped the course of the war. With Scott Eastwood at the center, it’s a high-stakes story for both history buffs and action fans.”
Lurie noted the thematic depth of the film, explaining, “With World War II, you have a certain head start, don’t you? There is no ambiguity in the righteousness of the two sides. So, a filmmaker is required to figure out what will serve as the thematic spine of their film. In Lucky Strike, we were always asking not how we survive but rather why do we survive.”
Saba and Shanan Becker, Co-Presidents of Saban Films, emphasized Lurie’s ability to engage audiences, stating, “Rod Lurie has a singular gift for placing audiences directly into the heat of battle, capturing the soldier’s experience with unmatched authenticity. Lucky Strike is a visceral, emotionally resonant film that reminds us of the grit and ingenuity required to preserve our freedom.”
Produced by Roadside Attractions and Saban Films, Lucky Strike is a presentation of Millennium Media and a Perfection Hunter Production, in association with BondIt Media Capital, Grobman Films, and Orogen Entertainment. The production team includes Frydman, Davis Lurie, Younger, Les Weldon, and Yariv Lerner, with a host of executive producers.
