Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey Qualify for 2026 World Cup
The stage is set for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to kick off on June 11 in Mexico City, with Mexico facing off against another team. Co-hosts the USA and Canada will begin their tournaments the following day, with matches in Los Angeles and Toronto.
The finalization of the tournament schedule at SoFi Stadium has been marked by the successful qualification of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey. They secured spots in the 48-team roster during high-stakes matches on Tuesday, completing the tournament lineup.
Bosnia and Herzegovina earned their place in the World Cup after a dramatic victory over Italy, winning in a penalty shootout after an intense 120 minutes of play. This marks their second appearance in the tournament, having last participated in 2014. They are set to compete against Switzerland on June 18 in Group B.
Turkey clinched their spot with a 1-0 win over Kosovo. This will be Turkey’s third participation in the World Cup, following their remarkable third-place finish in 2002. They are scheduled to play against the United States at SoFi Stadium on June 25.
SoFi Stadium will host a total of five group stage matches, including matchups such as the USA against Paraguay on June 12, and Belgium versus Iran on June 21.
The group stage will conclude on June 27, after which the top two teams in each group, along with the eight best third-place finishers, will advance to the Round of 32 starting June 28. The knockout stages will follow, with the quarterfinals on July 9 and the championship match at MetLife Stadium on July 19.
A comprehensive match schedule will be released in March, coinciding with the completion of the remaining World Cup slots through ongoing FIFA and European playoffs.
SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020 and is located on the site of the former Hollywood Park Racetrack, features a seating capacity of approximately 70,000, an artificial surface, and a fixed roof. The venue is part of a lineup of host cities across the USA, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, and more, alongside host cities in Mexico and Canada.
