Exciting New Arrivals for Cannes Classics: Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, Jerzy Skolimowski’s ‘Moonlighting’, Jia Zhang-Ke Short, and Bruce Dern Documentary

Star-Studded Lineup for Cannes Classics

This year’s Cannes Film Festival will welcome a host of notable figures, including Bruce Dern, Laura Dern, Guillermo del Toro, Artavazd Pelechian, Dario Argento, and Jerzy Skolimowski. The festival’s heritage segment, Cannes Classics, announced its impressive lineup on Tuesday.

A highlight of this year’s program is a 4K restoration of Guillermo del Toro’s acclaimed 2006 film, Pan’s Labyrinth, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary since its world premiere at Cannes. Del Toro is scheduled to attend the screening.

Other notable restored films include Jerzy Skolimowski’s 1982 work, Moonlighting, which will be presented in the presence of the director and his wife, Ewa Piaskowska. Dario Argento will also make an appearance for a screening of Love Circle, a 1968 film by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi for which he penned the screenplay.

Bruce Dern will be present for the documentary Dernsie: The Amazing Life Of Bruce Dern, created from over fifty hours of interviews filmed over four years. The film features candid conversations with notable figures such as Quentin Tarantino, Alexander Payne, and his daughter, Laura Dern.

The Cannes Classics section will encompass 21 feature films, three short films, and six documentaries, dedicated to the late Dean Tavoularis, the celebrated production designer for classics such as The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. Tavoularis passed away in Paris on April 22 at the age of 93.

Among the short films showcased is Torino Shadow, directed by Jia Zhang-Ke, which he created for Italy’s Museo Nazionale del Cinema Torino. The film features Zhao Tao as a woman journeying from southern China to Turin to reconnect with her husband, only to navigate unexpected challenges. Both Jia Zhang-Ke and Zhao Tao are expected to attend the screening.
