Ex-Prince Andrew’s Holiday Plans Amid Delayed Eviction from Royal Lodge
Delay in Eviction Offers Former Prince Andrew an Extended Stay at Royal Lodge
The eviction of former Prince Andrew from his long-time residence at Royal Lodge has been postponed, affecting his holiday plans, according to sources. The disgraced royal now faces a transition from the 31-room mansion to a more modest home at Sandringham.
Insiders revealed to The Mirror that the royal family is largely unfazed by this delay, attributed to a variety of factors. Andrew, who has recently relinquished his HRH title and other royal honors in light of ongoing scrutiny surrounding his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, may conclude the year in the familiar surroundings he has occupied since 2004.
In an announcement from Buckingham Palace, Andrew returned the lease for Royal Lodge to The Crown Estate on October 30. This decision was reportedly made to help maintain the appropriate standing of his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, within the royal family. However, the logistics of moving from the expansive Royal Lodge to a more confined residence have proven challenging.
"He has a large house where he has lived for a long time, and he will be moving into a more modest house; logically, it won’t happen this side of Christmas," a source informed The Sun on November 28. Andrew, currently known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, is expected to occupy one of King Charles’s privately-owned properties at Sandringham, which has been positioned to avoid taxpayer-funded critiques. Reports suggest he may remain at Royal Lodge until February due to both space constraints and uncertainties about the readiness of his new home.
This delay may be advantageous for the royal family. According to The Mirror, the absence of Andrew during the holiday season could alleviate potential discomfort for the family, as he was not invited to last year’s Christmas festivities at Sandringham, where many senior royals gather to celebrate.
Sources highlighted that any encounter during the holiday could have been “suboptimal” and “quite awkward,” especially considering Andrew’s strained relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
