Erin and Ben Napier Share Why They’re Not Hosting the New Season of Their HGTV ‘Home Town’ Spinoff
Erin and Ben Napier Step Back from Hosting Duties for Upcoming Season of Home Town Takeover
Erin and Ben Napier, the beloved hosts of the HGTV series Home Town Takeover, will not return to lead the upcoming season. This marks a significant change for the show, which has been helmed by the couple since its launch in 2021.
The Napiers informed Cinemablend that they are "not legally allowed" to host the entire season, which will be filmed in Canada. Due to Canadian regulations, only Canadian talent can take on hosting responsibilities. "Our production company is Canadian. The people who make our show, they’re passionate about this Canadian takeover,” Erin explained. She added that as Americans, they can only participate as guest stars. Ben reiterated, "A Canadian broadcast show has to be hosted by Canadian talent."
This legal stipulation is rooted in Canada’s Online Streaming Act, which aims to promote and maximize the involvement of Canadian creators in broadcasts.
According to the show’s logline, Home Town Takeover features Erin and Ben, along with members of the HGTV family, as they revitalize small towns by renovating homes and community spaces for local changemakers.
Erin expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming production, noting that she has never been to Canada but is looking forward to experiencing it. "I think it would be magical in the summer," she remarked.
Ben also shared that a new husband-and-wife hosting team has been selected, and both he and Erin are pleased with the decision. "We know who it is, and I can say we really like them," he revealed.
As fans await more updates on the show’s future, excitement continues to build for the new season and its Canadian twists.
