Eric Dane’s Journey as a Dad: A Heartfelt Look at His Kids Billie and Georgia
Eric Dane, Beloved Actor and Family Man, Dies After ALS Battle
Actor Eric Dane, best known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, passed away on February 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was 53 years old. Dane’s family announced his death, revealing he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones, including his wife Rebecca Gayheart and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
Dane publicly shared his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, bringing attention to the rare neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world,” his family stated.
The couple welcomed their first child, Billie Beatrice Dane, in March 2010, followed by Georgia Geraldine Dane, born in December 2011. In a previous interview, Dane reflected on his joy in having a family, stating, “I never had a family, and now I do. I know I’m a very lucky guy.”

Billie Beatrice, who is set to turn 16 in March 2026, has embraced her family’s artistic roots. She has appeared in modeling campaigns, including Grazia Bulgaria, and has expressed a passion for dance, calling ballet “like oxygen” for her. In 2023, she told Patch, “Studying ballet has taught me so much about discipline, commitment and how to make the perfect bun!”
Billie graduated from middle school in June 2024, prompting her mother to share a heartfelt tribute on social media, celebrating her resilience and achievements. However, it remains uncertain whether Billie intends to pursue acting like her parents. She has seen “every episode” of Grey’s Anatomy, but has yet to watch her father’s performance in Euphoria.
Before his passing, Dane recorded a touching message for Billie and Georgia during a Netflix special titled Famous Last Words: Eric Dane. He emphasized four key lessons—living in the present, falling in love with something, finding supportive people, and fighting with dignity.

Georgia, now 14, joined the Dane family in December 2011. In a statement following her birth, Gayheart’s representative confirmed both mother and baby were healthy, while Billie was excited to be a big sister.
Humor marked Georgia’s interactions with her father. In 2024, Eric recounted a funny moment when Georgia asked him, “Dad, where did your abs go?” after watching Grey’s Anatomy.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia’s positive spirit shone through. Gayheart described her in a 2020 Instagram post as the family member who was “thriving and not just surviving,” highlighting her ability to find joy in everyday life.
As she navigates her teenage years, Georgia has expressed interest in following in her parents’ footsteps in the entertainment industry. While both sisters discuss their aspirations, Gayheart has mentioned that they are still too young to make any firm decisions. For now, Georgia finds joy in playing volleyball, showcasing her diverse interests beyond acting.
Dane’s legacy as a devoted husband and father, alongside his influential career in Hollywood, leaves a lasting impact on both his family and his fans.
