Elton John and David Furnish recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating two decades together. Their 20th wedding anniversary on December 21 was commemorated with affectionate posts on Instagram.
“Happy anniversary to my incredible husband, @davidfurnish. Today we celebrate 20 years since our civil partnership, 11 years of marriage, and many more years of happiness to come!” wrote John, 78, alongside a nostalgic photo of the couple.
Furnish, 63, echoed these sentiments in his own post, sharing a collection of cherished memories. He stated, “20 years ago today we were civil partnered. 11 years ago today we were wedded. Happy Anniversary to my magnificent husband @eltonjohn. I’m so grateful for the beautiful life we have built together. Love you forever.”

John and Furnish’s relationship began in 1993 at a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend. The spark was immediate, leading to their first date the next day. They formalized their commitment with a civil partnership in December 2005 and later celebrated their marriage in 2014, following the legalization of same-sex marriage in the U.K.
The couple welcomed their first son, Zachary, in 2010 through surrogacy, followed by the birth of their second son, Elijah, in 2013.

Despite the challenges that any couple faces, John and Furnish attribute their enduring relationship to consistent communication and affection. Each week, they share a love letter or message, a tradition initiated on the anniversary of their first meeting. “We wrote about the week that’s passed and the week that’s coming,” Furnish noted, emphasizing the importance of connection and expression of feelings in maintaining their bond.
John adds that even during his travels, he would send these letters via fax, illustrating their commitment to staying connected through all circumstances.
