Edison Celebrates This Year’s Sunset League Surfers
Edison High Surfers Recognized for Excellence in Sunset Surf League
In a thrilling start to the day, students at Edison High School have embraced the early morning waves, participating in surfing classes that kick off at 6 a.m. This commitment to both the sport and their studies has resonated in significant recognition for two standout athletes. Jesse Rapp and Ryan Kliem have earned the prestigious titles of Surfer of the Year for boys and girls, respectively, in the Sunset Surf League.
“It’s a great way to start off the day,” Rapp shared, reflecting on the invigorating experience of surfing before attending academic classes.
The surfing classes are held at River Jetties Beach in Newport Beach, where Edison High recently clinched the league team title. They triumphed over competitors from various schools, including Marina, Newport Harbor, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and Newport Beach Pacifica Christian.
In addition to his surfing accomplishments, Rapp is also a member of the school band, where he plays guitar. Winning the Surfer of the Year award “really meant a lot,” he remarked. Having previously played volleyball as a freshman, Rapp noted the unique camaraderie forged through surfing, stating, “It’s great to connect with other schools and through surfing.”
This achievement highlights a positive aspect of high school sports, showcasing the dedication and talent of young athletes within the community.
