Ducks Struggle to Score in Shutout Loss to the Blues
St. Louis Blues Secure 4-0 Victory Over Ducks with Stellar Goaltending and Drouin’s Debut Goal
On Sunday night, the St. Louis Blues clinched a commanding 4-0 victory against the Anaheim Ducks, marking a successful end to their four-game road trip. Goaltender Joel Hofer recorded 22 saves for his fifth shutout of the season, underscoring his excellent form since the Olympic break.
Jonathan Drouin, playing in his debut for the Blues after joining the team from the Islanders at Friday’s trade deadline, contributed significantly by scoring one of the second-period goals. Drouin’s shot, a powerful slap shot on the power play, found the back of the net with 9:53 remaining in the period.
Jordan Kyrou was the first to open the scoring at 4:22 into the game, firing a shot from the right side during a 3-on-1 break. Following Drouin’s goal, Jimmy Snuggerud added to St. Louis’s lead with a one-timer at the 7:49 mark in the second period.
Despite a lengthy power play opportunity that carried into the third period, St. Louis was unable to extend their lead further. The power play was granted after Ross Johnston received a major penalty for boarding Justin Holl, who also made his Blues debut after being acquired from Detroit.
The Ducks unsuccessfully challenged Snuggerud’s goal midway through the third for offsides. Pius Suter eventually sealed the game with an empty-net goal with 4:02 left on the clock. Ville Husso, the Ducks’ goaltender, faced 35 shots throughout the match.
This loss capped a nine-game homestand for the Ducks, who split their last four games after starting with five consecutive victories. The team struggled on the power play against the Blues, failing to convert on all six opportunities.
Adding to the Ducks’ challenges, defenseman John Carlson, acquired from Washington, missed his fifth straight game due to a lower-body injury. However, center Mikael Granlund returned after sitting out six games with an upper-body injury sustained during the Olympic bronze-medal game.
Looking ahead, the Ducks will face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night as they aim to bounce back from this defeat.
