In a dramatic moment on the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, contestant Briar Blush collapsed during the runway judging segment. The incident occurred during the fourth episode of Season 18, which aired on January 23 on MTV.
The 24-year-old’s fainting spell was unsettling, happening shortly after she faced a harsh critique from judge Law Roach. Roach told her, “You look like a WWE wrestler,” referring to her outfit crafted from scratch. He added, “I just wanted you to jump off the ropes and just do a drop-kick on somebody.”

Roach, referencing Briar’s outfit, which drew inspiration from notable designs, expressed blunt opinions. He remarked, “I don’t really give a f— how well she sewed it, it was ugly! It was tacky, the color was off. I hated it.” Despite his criticism, he did acknowledge Briar’s makeup, stating, “Let me tell you what I did love. That face, daughter? The beat is divine.”

The criticism visibly affected Briar, who appeared stone-faced as the judges prepared to announce the winner between her and fellow contestant Juicy Love Dion. As tension mounted, Briar leaned over and fainted, collapsing into Juicy’s arms.
In the immediate aftermath, Juicy rushed to Briar’s side while RuPaul and fellow judge Michelle Visage called for medical assistance. “I’m trying to rub her chest to wake her up,” Juicy recounted in a confessional, expressing her concern, “I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m scared.”

Briar regained consciousness shortly thereafter, asking, “Did I fall?” Even in that moment, she seemed bewildered, exclaiming, “Oh my God! Whoa, I didn’t even know I fell!” Later, during an episode of Untucked, she reflected on the incident, stating, “It’s kind of embarrassing. It’s so frightening that something like this could happen at the biggest opportunity of your life.”
Medical personnel attended to Briar, and she was soon evaluated before being cleared to return to the stage. “Sorry,” she apologized as she stepped back on set.

Reactions from the audience were mixed. While many viewers expressed concern, some contestants remained skeptical about the authenticity of Briar’s collapse. Vita VonTesse Starr commented on the incident’s timing, suggesting it was convenient. Similar sentiments were echoed by rival Athena Dion, who pointed out the pressures contestants face during judging.
In contrast, Myki Meeks defended Briar, insisting she would not have faked such an incident. Contestants backstage speculated that the stress Briar faced throughout the week, including a challenging argument involving fellow competitors, may have contributed to her fainting.
Dion expressed empathy towards Briar, believing the pressure of recent experiences culminated at that moment. “It was quite a jarring moment for everybody on the stage,” she remarked.
Despite the incident, the competition continued after Briar was deemed stable. Juicy was announced as the winner of the fashion challenge, albeit Briar found herself in the bottom two once back on stage.
Before the subsequent lip sync battle, Briar stated, “Coming back from fainting, I knew that it was a possibility that this would happen… But I’m gonna fight. I want to stay. So I’m going to give it all I have left.”

Ultimately, everything Briar gave was not enough to secure her position in the competition, and she was asked to “sashay away.” Reflecting on her exit, she remarked, “Some very gorgeous outfits were missed. Ru… all I want to say is, huge mistake.” Briar expressed that the stressful week and moments of self-doubt had impacted her performance but remained hopeful for the future, stating, “I will pick myself back up. And if you’re rooting for me, I’m positive you will get more.”
RuPaul’s Drag Race and Untucked air Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
