Donald Trump Responds to Norah O’Donnell After Interview Raises Controversy
Trump Responds to Manifesto During 60 Minutes Interview Amid White House Incident
In a recent interview with Norah O’Donnell for 60 Minutes, former President Donald Trump expressed anger over references made to a manifesto linked to an individual who allegedly attempted to breach security during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. This conversation, filmed on Sunday, comes in the wake of a concerning security incident at the event.
During the interview, O’Donnell confronted Trump with excerpts from the manifesto, which include alarming statements regarding the suspect’s motivations. “He writes this quote, ‘Administration officials, they are targets,’” she stated. She followed with another passage: “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”
Trump’s reaction was swift and forceful. “Well, I was waiting for you to read that because I knew you would because you’re … horrible people," he said, firmly disavowing the accusations aimed at him. “I’m not a rapist. I didn’t rape anybody.”
O’Donnell went on to ask whether Trump believed the suspect was referencing him. Trump reiterated his innocence, dismissing the claims as "crap from some sick person" and emphasized that he had been "totally exonerated." He further stated, “You should be ashamed of yourself reading that because I’m not any of those things,” referring to the manifesto’s contents.
The interview also explored the circumstances surrounding the security breach. The suspect, identified as Cole Allen from Torrance, California, is expected to face federal charges. Reports suggest that Allen authored a manifesto prior to attempting to charge through security.
O’Donnell highlighted Allen’s writings noting his frustrations regarding the security measures, quoting, “What the hell is the Secret Service doing?” and his claims of the event’s security being "insane."
In response, Trump remarked, “Well, he was pretty incompetent too, because he got caught. And he got caught pretty easily.” He defended the Secret Service, claiming they had performed admirably during the chaotic moments.
Earlier in the interview, Trump recounted the moment shots were heard during the event. Video from the incident showed Vice President JD Vance being quickly escorted away by Secret Service agents, followed by Trump himself. O’Donnell asked about the rapid response by security personnel, noting that it took only seconds to evacuate officials.
Trump described his instinct to remain aware of the situation, stating, “I wanted to see what was happening… maybe it was a bad problem, different kind of a problem.” He admitted that his actions may have slowed down the response, as security urged him to take cover.
When pressed about the moments in which he appeared to drop to the ground in response to the unfolding chaos, Trump clarified, “They said, ‘Please go down. Please go down to the floor.’ So I dropped to the floor.”
The complete interview will be broadcast tonight on 60 Minutes.
