Dominic West and Clarke Peters Team Up for a Heartfelt Horseback Journey in ‘Beyond The Silk Road’ Documentary
EXCLUSIVE: Actors Dominic West and Clarke Peters, known for their roles as Jimmy McNulty and Lester Freamon in HBO’s acclaimed series The Wire, are set to embark on a new adventure in the documentary Beyond The Silk Road.
This documentary, produced by Blink Films, features West and Peters traveling through Kyrgyzstan on horseback. It will also be presented as a two-part series during the London TV Screenings, which is expected to be a highlight of the event with Blue Ant managing sales. A first look at the documentary is available above.
West and Peters first crossed paths on the set of The Wire, where they discovered a mutual passion for horsemanship and the outdoors, often unwinding after long filming days by exploring the wilderness of Maryland on horseback.
Since their time on The Wire, West has taken on notable roles in The Crown and The Affair, while Peters has appeared in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and various other projects. Both actors dedicated their time to film Beyond The Silk Road.
The Silk Road served as a vital network of trade routes, with Kyrgyzstan acting as an important crossroads. The documentary highlights the country’s untouched landscapes and communities that continue to embrace traditional equestrian lifestyles. Accompanied by expert guide Alexandra Tolstoy, West and Peters navigate the Silk Road, living in yurts and participating in age-old cultural rituals and sports.
“It was a real privilege to get a taste of what life was like for the traders of the ancient Silk Road and to head out into the wilderness with my old friend Clarke,” West remarked. “There were some pretty hair-raising moments scaling the precipitous mountain passes on horseback, particularly with my questionable equine skills. But we had the adventure of a lifetime thanks to our extraordinary guide Alexandra.”
Peters echoed West’s sentiments, stating, “When I got that call from my dear friend Dominic to join him on this horseback adventure, I knew we’d have fun, but I couldn’t have imagined just how special the experience would be. To connect with an ancient way of life and extraordinary Kyrgyz people, in such a breathtaking landscape, it reminds you what life is really all about.”
The documentary is directed by Sean McDonnell and produced by Claire Bugden, with Blink Films being a part of Tin Roof Media. The production company has developed content for broadcasters and streaming platforms worldwide, and this project is anticipated to be a significant attraction at the London TV Screenings. Blue Ant Rights is managing global distribution.
Laura Jones, Justine Kershaw, and Tolstoy serve as executive producers on Beyond the Silk Road.
