Dodgers Defeat Mets with Justin Wrobleski’s Strong Eight Innings and Andy Pages’ Home Run
Wrobleski Shines in Dodgers’ 4-0 Victory Over Mets
In a standout performance, Dodgers left-hander Justin Wrobleski delivered an impressive outing in the team’s 4-0 win against the Mets on Monday at Dodger Stadium. Wrobleski limited the Mets to just two hits over eight scoreless innings, marking the longest start of his professional career.
Wrobleski’s flawless execution was evident early on as he took a perfect game into the fifth inning. Defensive support from his teammates bolstered his effort; shortstop Miguel Rojas showcased his skills with a diving stop on a grounder from Bo Bichette in the second inning, while third baseman Max Muncy leaped to snag a line drive from Tyrone Taylor in the third.
The game shifted when Jorge Polanco finally broke through with a single through the right side of the infield, becoming the Mets’ first baserunner with one out in the fifth. Wrobleski quickly responded by inducing a ground ball from Francisco Alvarez, which led to an inning-ending double play executed by second baseman Santiago Espinal.
Further displaying his versatility, Wrobleski caught a line drive off the bat of Mark Vientos in the seventh, after battling with an inside fastball that splintered the bat. He continued to dominate, retiring nine straight batters before allowing another single in the eighth inning. By this point, his pitch count rested at 90.
Tanner Scott entered in the ninth inning to seal the shutout, preserving the 4-0 lead.
The Dodgers established an early advantage in the game when Mets pitcher David Peterson hit leadoff batter Shohei Ohtani with a 94-mph sinker. Following a walk drawn by Kyle Tucker, Will Smith brought in Ohtani with a single up the middle. The Dodgers expanded their lead in the third inning with a three-run home run from Andy Pages, who has been particularly productive at the plate this season.
In a roster move, the Dodgers have placed relief pitcher Ben Casparius on the 15-day injured list. Kyle Hurt has been recalled from Triple-A, marking the first roster adjustment for the bullpen this season. Casparius, who struggled with a 9.64 ERA, faced difficulties in his last appearance, yielding a single and issuing a walk before exiting the game. Manager Dave Roberts noted a possible correlation between Casparius’ injury and his performance that night, adding that the pitcher is scheduled for an MRI examination. Hurt enters with a 3.68 ERA from his seven spring-training appearances, having last pitched in the major leagues in April 2024 due to Tommy John surgery.
