Dodgers Anticipate Snell Won’t Be Ready for Opening Day as Yamamoto Prepares for World Baseball Classic
Dodgers’ Blake Snell Likely to Miss Opening Day Due to Shoulder Injury
The Los Angeles Dodgers do not anticipate that two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell will be ready in time for Opening Day. Snell is currently in recovery from a shoulder injury that has been affecting him since last season.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts addressed reporters on Friday, confirming that the left-handed pitcher has been making progress. However, he clarified that Snell is still restricted to throwing on flat ground and has yet to take the mound.
Last season, Snell appeared in only 11 regular-season games, finishing with a record of 5-4 and an impressive 2.35 ERA. He also made a significant impact during the playoffs, going 3-2 in six starts and contributing to the Dodgers’ second consecutive World Series championship.
In a related development, in a recent spring training game against the San Francisco Giants, right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed two runs and five hits while striking out five batters over three innings. Yamamoto is set to travel to Japan to participate in the World Baseball Classic alongside Dodgers teammate Shohei Ohtani.
