DMA’s Take the Leap to a Major Label with Their New Self-Titled Album
DMA’S Returns with Self-Titled Album and Major Label Backing
Australian band DMA’S is making a significant return with their upcoming self-titled album, marking their first release under a major label. The trio, known for their nostalgic sound reminiscent of ‘90s Britpop, is set to launch the album on August 7. This project follows a global partnership with Wonderlick Entertainment, alongside Sony Music Australia and RCA UK.
The new album, DMA’S, will feature previously released tracks such as "My Baby’s Place," along with the recently unveiled anthemic single "Heatin Park," which was accompanied by an official music video.
The album was recorded in the band’s studio in Glebe, Sydney, and in Los Angeles. According to a statement, it is designed to capture "the evolution of their signature anthemic sound with fresh sonic textures." The group, comprised of Tommy O’Dell, Matt Mason, and Johnny Took, collaborated with Grammy Award-nominated producer Lach Bostock, alongside contributions from Jimi Somewhere and Styalz Fuego.
To date, DMA’S has amassed over 500 million streams and garnered prestige with an ARIA Award for best group in 2023. Additionally, their rendition of Cher’s 1990s hit "Believe" topped triple j’s inaugural Hottest 100 “Live A Version” countdown. All four of their previous albums have reached the top 10 on the ARIA Chart during their time with I Oh You, part of the Mushroom Group.
The U.K. has emerged as a significant market for DMA’S, with their last two studio albums—How Many Dreams (No. 3 in 2023) and The Glow (No. 4 in 2020)—both making the top 10 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart. Each of these albums has charted higher than its predecessor.
In promotion of their new album, DMA’S will embark on an East Coast tour in Australia, beginning on November 27 at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane. This will be followed by a performance at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on November 28, part of the Live at the Gardens series, and concluding with a show at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on December 3.
Before this Australian tour, DMA’S will also celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their debut album, Hills End, with a series of U.K. concerts this summer.
