NEED TO KNOW
- Diane Kruger and Lucas Bravo portray 18th-century nobility in The Seduction, HBO’s adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
- In discussing a tense scene, Bravo noted that Kruger encouraged him, saying, “Go all in, I’m prepared,” before filming.
- The series finale of The Seduction is set to premiere on December 19 on HBO.
Lucas Bravo, who plays the antagonist Comte de Gercourt, expressed some concerns prior to filming an intense scene with co-star Diane Kruger in The Seduction. The series freshens the narrative of the 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, shifting the focus onto modern themes of power and seduction.
In the latest episode, which debuted on December 12, Gercourt’s actions against Rosemonde, portrayed by Kruger, culminate in a shocking assault. This moment starkly contrasts Rosemonde’s previous schemes with her allies to dismantle Gercourt’s influence.
At 37, Bravo admitted it was “hard not to question how far you can go” in scenes of such gravity. He remarked, “I like to go all in, and I had a lot of fun playing that character, but also… it’s hard not to wonder how far you can push the boundaries.”

Reflecting on the duality of the filming experience, Bravo shared a moment of levity while bonding with Kruger during makeup. “We were talking about family and very cute things, and then I spent the evenings strangling her on the fireplace,” he noted. “It was hard for me to completely let go of that contrast.”
Bravo attributed much of his comfort to the intimacy coordinators present on set and expressed gratitude to Kruger for her supportive approach. “Diane gave me permission. She came to me and said, ‘Go all in, and I’m prepared,'” he recalled. This assurance helped Bravo contextualize the intensity needed for their performances.

For Kruger, ensuring the portrayal of the scene resonated with the story’s themes was paramount. “It was very important to me, and I had very long conversations with [director] Jessica [Palud] about it being as violent and graphic as it could be,” she stated. She emphasized the necessity of depicting the harsh realities women faced in a society shaped by male dominance.
Kruger described the assault in the episode as a pivotal moment for her character. “It’s really the crumbling point where my character realizes — I give up. I literally do not [want to] push any harder.” This harrowing experience leaves Rosemonde paralyzed with fear, reflecting the broader societal constraints women face.
She elaborated on the emotional weight tied to the scene, saying, “Rosemonde’s fear of men and of the societal structure has now paralyzed her, and she feels compelled to protect a younger woman, but she finds herself stuck.” The sentiments encapsulate the oppressive realities many women endure, making the scene particularly impactful.
As new episodes of The Seduction continue to premiere weekly, audiences can expect to see further explorations of these intense dynamics leading up to the finale on December 19.
