David Duchovny and Laverne Cox to Star in New Satirical Series ‘Soapbox’ Alongside West Duchovny, Randall Park, Jimmi Simpson, and Jennifer Grey
David Duchovny and Laverne Cox Team Up for Satirical Comedy ‘Soapbox’
David Duchovny, renowned for his role in The X-Files, has co-written and will star alongside Laverne Cox, known for Clean Slate, in the upcoming satirical comedy Soapbox. The film follows an aging soap opera star trying to navigate the absurdities of contemporary culture wars.
Details about the plot remain largely under wraps. The film is directed by Andrew Jay Cohen, who is recognized for his work on the Neighbors series and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Duchovny collaborated with Max Barbakow, the director of Palm Springs, to write the screenplay.
The cast also includes West Duchovny from Painkiller, Randall Park from Fresh Off the Boat, Jimmi Simpson from Westworld, and Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing. Production began earlier this month in Los Angeles.
Soapbox is produced by Astute Films in association with Rookie, Inc. The production team features Fred Bernstein, Duchovny, Tiffany Kuzon, Jeff David, Barbakow, and Cohen, while Cox serves as an executive producer.
Duchovny, a Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy nominee, is anticipated to appear next in Jay Duplass’ dramedy See You When I See You, which recently premiered at Sundance and is set for the SXSW festival. Additionally, he has written, directed, and produced Reverse the Curse, based on his novel Bucky Fcking Dent*.
Cox, also a four-time Emmy nominee, gained prominence through her roles in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and Inventing Anna, as well as Prime Video’s Clean Slate. Her film credits include Promising Young Woman, Bad Hair, and Grandma, with another project, Outcome, directed by Jonah Hill, forthcoming.
The representatives for the cast include Gersh and Untitled for West Duchovny, UTA and Artists First for Randall Park, CAA and Cognition Artists for Jimmi Simpson, and Untitled for Jennifer Grey. Duchovny, Cohen, and Barbakow are represented by CAA and Range Media.
