Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films Partners with Searchlight Pictures for Exciting Film and TV Projects
Dirty Films Signs First-Look Deal with Searchlight Pictures
Dirty Films, the production company co-founded by acclaimed actress Cate Blanchett, along with Andrew Upton and Coco Francini, has entered a first-look film and television agreement with Searchlight Pictures.
This partnership will see Searchlight develop and produce films and streaming series in collaboration with Dirty Films. The deal builds on their previous collaboration on Sweetsick, a drama led by Blanchett that marks Alice Birch’s directorial debut. Notably, this collaboration also signifies a full-circle moment for Blanchett, whose international film debut, Paradise Road, was distributed by Searchlight.
“Dirty Films has consistently championed distinctive voices and ambitious storytelling,” noted Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield. “Cate, Andrew, and Coco are singular creative partners, and we’re thrilled to continue our commitment to filmmaker-driven cinema with this collaboration.”
The principals of Dirty Films expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are honored to partner with Searchlight Pictures, whose passion for cinema and deeply collaborative ethos align seamlessly with our own. Together with Matthew Greenfield and his exceptional team, we look forward to championing bold, entertaining, and provocative storytelling across film and television for audiences worldwide.”
Dirty Films has an impressive track record, producing notable projects such as Carol and Truth, both starring Blanchett, as well as the series Mrs. America and Stateless. In addition to Sweetsick, the company has recently completed work on Peaches by Jenny Suen and Alpha Gang by the Zellner Brothers. Their portfolio also includes The New Boy by Warwick Thornton, Fingernails by Christos Nikou, Shayda by Noora Niasari, the award-winning podcastClimate of Change, and the VR interactive experience Evolver.
Additionally, Dirty Films leads the Proof of Concept Accelerator Program in collaboration with the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, supporting women, trans, and non-binary filmmakers. Blanchett also heads the Displacement Film Fund, which empowers refugee and displaced filmmakers.
Looking ahead, Searchlight Pictures is set to release Ready or Not 2: Here I Come on March 20, followed by other anticipated titles, including Super Troopers 3 on August 7 and Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine on November 6.
Paul Hoffman facilitated the deal for Searchlight Pictures, while CAA represented Dirty Films.
