Darren Abbott Steps In as President at Hallmark Media After John Matts’ Departure
Hallmark Media Appoints New President
Hallmark Media has announced the appointment of Darren Abbott as its new president. Abbott, a long-serving member of the company with nearly 30 years of experience, takes over following the departure of John Matts, who held the position for a brief tenure beginning in June 2025.
Previously, Abbott served as the Chief Brand Officer and will retain those responsibilities while also overseeing advertising sales, distribution, and research for Hallmark Media.
Under Abbott’s leadership, Hallmark continues to produce popular series, including When Calls The Heart, which recently launched its thirteenth season, The Way Home, concluding its fourth season, and Mistletoe Murders, which has been renewed for a third season.
Mike Perry, President & CEO of Hallmark, praised Abbott’s leadership qualities: “Darren is a deeply admired and respected leader with a proven track record of creating moments and opportunities that are uniquely and distinctly Hallmark. From fostering each brand touchpoint to elevating how we work with advertisers, distributors, and all external partners who help us deliver on our brand promise, Darren is uniquely suited to build a future where Hallmark continues to bring joy, positivity, and connection to fans and consumers everywhere.”
