Danny Robins’ Paranormal Podcast ‘The Witch Farm’ Becomes a New BBC Drama Starring Gabrielle Creevy and Michael Socha
The Witch Farm Podcast Set for BBC Drama Adaptation
The popular paranormal podcast The Witch Farm, created by Danny Robins, is set to be adapted into a drama series by the BBC. The British broadcaster has approved a four-part series, which will bear the same name, produced by Mammoth Screen, known for their work on The Forsytes.
Gabrielle Creevy (Black Doves) and Michael Socha (Showtrial) have been cast as the leads. Robins, recognized for his previous podcast Uncanny, which topped BBC Sounds’ listening charts last year, will write the series. He also created the acclaimed West End stage show 2:22 – A Ghost Story.
The narrative unfolds in South Wales in 1989, where Bill and Liz Rich leave London for a remote farmhouse in Heol Fanog, hoping for a fresh start. Initially embracing the isolation, Liz becomes convinced of a ghostly presence during a traumatic home birth, which triggers growing fears and unexplained disturbances in their new home. As Bill and Liz delve deeper into the eerie happenings, they confront a past that challenges their marriage and belief systems.
The Witch Farm is inspired by real events, and while it will incorporate genuine theories and witness accounts, the BBC series will adapt some elements for dramatic effect. Filming is expected to commence soon.
Robins remarked, “Get ready for a supernatural thriller that plays out as the most deliciously dark detective story — an emotional rollercoaster that will have you gripped, moved and spine-tingled. I can’t wait to spook you out.”
Lindsay Salt, BBC director of drama, expressed enthusiasm about bringing Robins’ work to a wider audience, stating, “Taking BBC drama viewers into the hugely popular world of Danny’s podcasts for the first time is incredibly exciting, and in Gabrielle and Michael we have the perfect leads. Whether you’re already a fan of Danny’s work or are coming to the story of The Witch Farm for the first time, be prepared for some scares.”
The series will be directed by Stacey Gregg (Bad Sisters) and produced by Megan Ott. Executive producers include Robins, Gregg, Simon Barnard, James Gandhi, and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, along with Nawfal Faizullah and Rebecca Ferguson from the BBC. Additional funding has been provided by the Welsh Government through Creative Wales. Mammoth will also be responsible for international distribution in association with ITV Studios.
The original podcast, produced by Bafflegab and Uncanny Media for BBC Radio 4, featured performances by Joseph Fiennes and Alexandra Roach.
