Country Music Star Crystal Gayle Faces Injury Setback
Crystal Gayle, the 75-year-old iconic country music singer-songwriter, has announced that a recent meniscus injury will prevent her from attending the 2026 Your Roots Are Showing conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Gayle was scheduled to perform as a key artist at the event but has since revealed that the injury has taken a significant toll on her both mentally and physically.
"I’ve never had anything like this … mentally, you’re going through a ‘why me?’" Gayle shared, discussing the unexpected hurdles posed by her condition.
The Your Roots Are Showing conference is known for featuring numerous renowned artists, including Amy Grant and Kristian Bush of Sugarland. However, due to ongoing concerns regarding her torn meniscus and potential risks associated with long flights, Gayle has decided to forgo the trip.
"I know people have dealt with it and there are all different types of surgeries they do. So we’ll see what I’m going to do," she stated regarding her recovery options.

In her ongoing recovery process, Gayle has consulted various specialists to determine the best way to manage her injury. "Different doctors have different ideas of how to deal with it," she noted, emphasizing the importance of finding an approach that works for her.
Despite the challenges, Gayle remains optimistic. "I can go and sit and sing, but it does put you in a different place mentally … it is harder to get around, but hopefully in the near future, it won’t be," she expressed.
Gayle’s husband and manager, Bil Gatzimos, conveyed her sentiments in a statement, revealing her disappointment about missing the conference. "I was truly looking forward to coming to Belfast — singing a few songs, sharing some stories, and spending time with everyone," she said. "But my doctor tells me this knee isn’t ready for those overseas miles just yet."
Looking ahead, Gayle expressed enthusiasm for resuming family activities, particularly with her five-year-old grandson. "Being able to do a little bit more activity with him would be great," she remarked humorously, adding that her grandson has noted her injury: "He says, ‘Your knee hurts.’"
Despite the setback, Gayle’s reflections illustrate gratitude for her accomplished career and the support she has received over the years. "I’ve had a great career. I’ve had so many wonderful people behind me, behind the scenes, as well as people coming to the concerts. And I feel very lucky," she concluded.
