United Talent Agency Signs Colombian Filmmaker Simón Mesa Soto
In a significant move for the film industry, United Talent Agency (UTA) has announced the signing of Colombian filmmaker Simón Mesa Soto for representation across all areas. Mesa Soto is recognized for his impressive body of work and his participation in the Cannes Film Festival.
His latest feature, Un Poeta, premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Jury Prize. The film, described as a satirical drama and tragicomedy, centers on a struggling poet grappling with his artistic ambitions and personal contradictions.
Un Poeta has made waves at various international film festivals, achieving accolades at Melbourne, San Sebastián, El Gouna, and Munich, as well as in India. Notably, the film has been selected as Colombia’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. It also earned nominations for Best International Film at the Film Independent Spirit Awards and Best Ibero-American Film at the Goya Awards.
Mesa Soto’s journey with Cannes began in 2014 when his short film Leidi won the short film Palme d’Or. He returned to the prestigious festival in 2016 with Madre and showcased his debut feature Amparo at Cannes Critics’ Week in 2021, receiving the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award.
A graduate of the Universidad de Antioquia, where he studied Audiovisual Communication, Mesa Soto further honed his craft by earning a Master’s degree from the London Film School.
