Colman Domingo, Nicholas Hoult, Noah Jupe, and Emma Corrin Team Up for Intriguing Thriller ‘The Servant’ by Francis Lee at Cannes Market
Colman Domingo, Nicholas Hoult, Noah Jupe, and Emma Corrin to Star in ‘The Servant’
In an exciting announcement, two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, Golden Globe nominee Nicholas Hoult, and rising stars Noah Jupe and Emma Corrin are set to star in the psychological thriller The Servant. This film marks the latest project for writer-director Francis Lee, known for his work on Ammonite and God’s Own Country.
The film will be produced by Blueprint Pictures, recognized for All Of Us Strangers and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, with international sales managed by Mk2, who plans to introduce the project at the Cannes market. Film4, known for films like Poor Things and The Zone Of Interest, is also involved in the production.
The Servant, set in 1950s New York, revolves around Tony (played by Hoult), an entitled British man who relocates to a luxurious Central Park apartment and becomes ensnared in a sinister power struggle with his manservant, Barrett (Domingo).
This film reimagines the 1963 classic directed by Joseph Losey, which featured a screenplay by Harold Pinter. That original film was noted for its themes of class, sexuality, and politics, with Dirk Bogarde’s portrayal of the sociopathic manservant drawing critical acclaim. Renowned filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho has cited it as an inspiration for his Oscar-winning movie Parasite. Lee’s modern retelling is expected to delve into similar dynamics, infused with contemporary nuances.
Principal photography is anticipated to commence in January 2027. Lee’s previous films have received accolades at both Sundance and TIFF, making this his first feature in six years.
Producers Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin from Blueprint Pictures will lead the project, alongside executive producers Ben Knight and Diarmuid McKeown. Farhana Bhula will serve as an executive producer for Film4.
Domingo is slated to appear next in Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, while Jupe is currently performing in Romeo and Juliet alongside Sadie Sink at The Harold Pinter Theatre in London. Hoult and Corrin both recently featured in Nosferatu, with Corrin also set to lead Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice series. Hoult will portray Lex Luthor in the newly upcoming Superman films.
Additionally, Mk2 will showcase eleven films at this year’s Cannes festival, including competition titles such as Gentle Monster, The Birthday Party, Minotaur, The Man I Love, and Nagi Notes.
Francis Lee shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I am delighted to be working with my incredible cast on The Servant, an exciting, dangerous and fun retelling with a contemporary viewpoint of the classic film. Although this thrilling story is set in 1950s New York, its themes feel more timely than ever, and I can’t wait for audiences to discover this film through fresh eyes.”
The sentiments were echoed by Broadbent and Czernin, who noted, “We are lucky to have the opportunity to work with Francis on this very special film. We have long been great admirers of his work and it is no surprise that his razor-sharp script has attracted such an incredible cast.”
Representatives for Lee, Domingo, Hoult, Corrin, and Jupe include various leading agencies in the industry.
