Colin Jost Playfully Roasts Scarlett Johansson on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Colin Jost found himself the subject of playful humor at the expense of his wife, Scarlett Johansson, during a recent episode of Saturday Night Live on December 20, 2025. As part of a joke swap with fellow anchor Michael Che, Jost was caught off guard reading a particularly personal joke about Johansson.
"This year, it seems Jost wasn’t informed of the plan," Che noted, emphasizing the long-standing tradition of the pair delivering jokes to one another that they had not seen prior to the show.
During the skit, Jost read aloud a series of jokes, starting with commentary on civil rights and church abuse victims. However, he ultimately faced the most personal joke of all: “New research shows that millions of women leave the workforce due to menopause which means there’s only a couple years left on my gravy train,” he quipped. The audience reacted with a mixture of laughter and surprise as a photo of Johansson appeared beside him.
“He’s got a back up,” Jost jokingly added, as the image transitioned to a snapshot of actress Jenna Ortega dressed as Wednesday Addams, remarking, “They don’t call Wednesday hump day for nothing.”
Michael Che, witnessing the cringe-worthy moment, couldn’t help but tease Jost: “Wow, Colin, I wouldn’t have done that one.”
Jost and Johansson, who married in October 2020 and share a son named Cosmo, have often been woven into the fabric of SNL humor. This incident, while a highlight of their comedic interactions, is not the first time Jost has poked fun at his wife during the show. A previous segment in December 2024 had Jost quipping about Costco’s removal of their roast beef sandwich while simultaneously referencing his personal life with Johansson.
As laughter echoed throughout the studio, Johansson’s reaction from backstage—mouthing “Oh my God”—implied her amusement, as well as a hint of exasperation, at her husband’s on-screen antics.
“She mentioned that it feels like her responsibility to come up with some way to ‘burn’ Michael back for his comedic jabs,” according to a recent interview. The playful banter between Jost, Che, and Johansson showcases the light-hearted dynamic among them, but also hints at a rapport that persists beyond the stage.
