Cleveland Baseball Team Is on a Roll with a Nine-Game Winning Streak
Cleveland High School Baseball Team Ascends with Winning Streak
Cleveland High School in Reseda is experiencing a remarkable turnaround in its baseball season, having surged from a 1-8 record to an impressive 10-8, currently boasting a nine-game winning streak. The Cavaliers find themselves unexpectedly tied for first place in the West Valley League, alongside El Camino Real at 4-1, as they prepare for an upcoming series next week.
“We’re playing a lot better, and it has to do with aspects we weren’t sharp at earlier—pitching, defense, and productive offense,” said head coach Peter Gunny.
Key players have been instrumental in this turnaround. All-City athlete Joshua Pearlstein has made significant contributions both at the plate and on the mound. Sophomore pitcher Xander Guiley secured a win against Birmingham and triumphed over the Patriots’ ace, Carlos Acuna. Shiloh Wickliffe, a transfer from Sierra Canyon, has demonstrated his hitting potential in just four games. Ezra Preis has delivered crucial hits, while freshman Elliot Schoenwald has stepped up as the starting center fielder and a relief pitcher.
The question remains: Can Cleveland maintain this momentum?
“The kids are playing well,” Gunny remarked. “They deserve it.”
