Chris Hemsworth Opens Up About His Alzheimer’s Genetic Risk and Concerns About Future Roles
Chris Hemsworth has opened up about his family’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease, raising questions about the potential impact this personal revelation might have on his acting career. The actor, who documented his father Craig’s diagnosis in the film A Road Trip to Remember, expressed concerns over whether audiences will be able to see him as the action hero he has portrayed for years, especially after revealing his own genetic predisposition to the disease.
“I wondered if I was letting people too far in,” Hemsworth said in an interview with The Guardian. “Are they no longer going to believe in the action star or the Marvel character? And do I want people to know my fears and insecurities to this level?”
In the 2025 Disney+ documentary, Hemsworth took Craig on a journey to revisit meaningful places from their past, aiming to enhance memory function through social interaction.
Reflecting on the experience, Hemsworth described the project as “so deeply personal,” characterizing it as a “love letter” to his father. He noted that it provided a significant boost to Craig’s morale and helped stimulate cherished memories that were fading.

In a previous 2022 National Geographic docuseries titled Limitless, Hemsworth disclosed that his grandfather had Alzheimer’s, which places him at a tenfold risk of developing the condition himself.
