CHP Recovers $600K Worth of Stolen Home Depot Tools at SoCal Swap Meet
California Highway Patrol Dismantles $600,000 Theft Operation
LOS ANGELES – California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigators have successfully dismantled a significant theft operation involving the resale of stolen construction tools valued at over $600,000. The arrests took place on Friday, targeting two suspects tied to a systematic scheme exploiting retail theft across Southern California.
The Southern Division’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force linked these individuals to a "fencing" operation primarily involving stolen merchandise from Home Depot’s inventory. Instead of committing the thefts themselves, the suspects allegedly acted as middlemen, purchasing stolen goods and reselling them at a swap meet in Los Angeles County.
A search executed at the suspects’ residence revealed a vast collection of construction equipment worth more than $600,000, although the investigation into their sources remains active.
While the operation has been dismantled, details regarding the specific Home Depot locations targeted have yet to be disclosed. Authorities are also still in the process of identifying the original shoplifters who supplied the stolen equipment.
The CHP has stated that while this primary resale network has been shut down, the investigation is continuing, with efforts focused on uncovering additional links within the organized crime framework. The seized tools will be processed as evidence before decisions are made regarding their return or disposal.
Both suspects’ names have not been released as inquiries are ongoing.
