Charlie Puth is facing online criticism following the announcement of his upcoming performance of the national anthem at Super Bowl LX, scheduled for February 8, 2026.
In response to a user’s comment on X, Puth expressed, “I’ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was. But I assure you we’re putting a really special arrangement together- in D major. It’ll be one of my best vocal performances.”
The NFL announced the Super Bowl LX pregame lineup over the holiday weekend. In addition to Puth, Brandi Carlile will perform “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” All three artists are notable figures on the Billboard charts and will take the stage leading up to Bad Bunny’s highly anticipated halftime show.
Puth, who achieved fame with the heartfelt tribute “See You Again” alongside Wiz Khalifa, boasts a series of successful albums. His most recent self-titled album released in 2022 peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, generating hits like “Light Switch” and “Left and Right,” a collaboration with Jung Kook of BTS. With a reputation for intricate musical arrangements, Puth often shares insights into his creative process on his official TikTok page.
With two months until the performance, Puth has ample time to refine his anthem arrangement. He is also set to release his fourth studio album, *Whatever’s Clever!*, on March 6.
In Puth’s own words: “I’ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was. But I assure you we’re putting a really special arrangement together- in D major. It’ll be one of my best vocal performances.” https://t.co/N4POfitxhb
