Charlie Day Suggests Danny DeVito as Perfect Voice for Wario in Super Mario Galaxy
Charlie Day Advocates for Danny DeVito as Wario in Upcoming Super Mario Sequel
As The Super Mario Galaxy Movie expands the Nintendo film universe, Charlie Day has expressed a strong desire to include his fellow It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star, Danny DeVito, in the franchise. Day, who reprises his role as Luigi in the recently released animated sequel, has ignited discussions among fans for casting DeVito as Wario, Mario’s adversary.
“Danny would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think,” Day said in an interview with ScreenRant. This endorsement aligns with ongoing fan campaigns advocating for DeVito to bring the character to life in the movies.
Day and DeVito have shared the screen since DeVito joined It’s Always Sunny in its second season in 2006. The two have cultivated a comedic chemistry that fans believe could translate well into the larger Mario franchise.
DeVito himself has responded to the fan-driven nomination. “You never know what happens in the world. I’m up for a lot of things. I’m ready to do a lot of things, so, whatever’s coming, I look at, I see, I evaluate,” he told The Movie Dweeb in May 2024.
“Yeah, let [Pratt] know,” DeVito added. “You should tell him that I’m going to take them to the cleaners, but I should be in the movie.”
Amid these discussions, Jack Black, who voices Bowser, previously toyed with the idea of Pedro Pascal voicing Wario, highlighting the growing interest in the character’s casting as The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues to resonate with audiences since its premiere in 2023.
As the franchise evolves, the potential inclusion of DeVito could further enrich its comedic landscape, drawing in both fans of the original games and avid followers of the actors’ past collaborations.
