Carlos López Estrada Shares His Thoughts on the Status of Disney’s ‘Robin Hood’ Remake
Carlos López Estrada Confirms Disney’s Robin Hood Remake Is Not Moving Forward
Director Carlos López Estrada has announced that Disney’s anticipated remake of Robin Hood will not proceed as planned. This update was revealed during a recent Reddit AMA, where the director of Blindspotting addressed inquiries regarding the live-action-animated hybrid film.
“It’s dead, sadly,” López Estrada replied when questioned about the project. “I say sadly because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it.”
In a follow-up response, he expressed a desire to explore the story independently, stating, “I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters.”
The remake was initially reported in 2020 as part of Disney’s plans for Disney+. At that time, the studio had engaged Kari Granlund, known for her work on the Lady and the Tramp remake, to write the screenplay. Justin Springer, who produced the 2019 live-action adaptation of Dumbo, was also attached to produce the Robin Hood project.
The original 1973 animated musical film, directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and produced by Walt Disney, is based on the famed legend of Robin Hood. It follows the adventures of Robin Hood, Little John, and the residents of Nottingham as they combat the tyranny of Prince John while Robin Hood vies for the affection of Maid Marian.
The voice cast of the original film included notable talents such as Brian Bedford, Monica Evans, Phil Harris, Roger Miller, and Peter Ustinov, among others.
