Canucks Edge Out Kings in Overtime Thriller
Jake DeBrusk Leads Canucks to Overtime Victory Against Kings
In a thrilling matchup on Tuesday night, Jake DeBrusk notched his second goal of the game in overtime, propelling the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The decisive moment came just 2:58 into the extra period when DeBrusk received a pass from center Elias Pettersson and skillfully tapped in the winning shot.
Pettersson not only opened the scoring for the Canucks but also contributed two assists throughout the game. Following his early goal, DeBrusk and Zeev Buium each added goals in the second period, helping the Canucks secure their third consecutive victory—their first streak of this nature since mid-December.
Kevin Lankinen demonstrated solid form in goal, stopping 31 of the 34 shots fired at him, as Vancouver improved to a 9-27-5 record on home ice this season.
For the Kings, Quinton Byfield and Alex Laferriere each recorded a goal and an assist, while Adrian Kempe secured his 36th goal of the season. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves during the contest.
DeBrusk has now scored three goals in as many games, all of which have come on the power play. Notably, 19 of his 23 goals this season have been scored while his team had the man advantage.
Anze Kopitar played his final game at Rogers Arena, adding an assist on Kempe’s second-period goal. With 864 assists, all with Los Angeles, he ranks third among active players for assists with a single franchise, only behind the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin (874) and Sidney Crosby (1,107).
Despite the loss, the Kings secured a playoff berth and remain in the second wild-card position in the Western Conference, extending their point streak to eight games with a record of 6-0-2. However, their five-game winning streak was halted by this defeat.
